## The brief on file

Viv — DONE in PR #225 (https://github.com/TacTile-dev/TacTile/pull/225), pending merge.

Was hardcoded versionCode=1 / versionName="1.0". Both now derive at configure time in apps/android/app/build.gradle.kts:

  versionCode <- $ANDROID_VERSION_CODE, else `git rev-list --count HEAD`, else 1
  versionName <- $ANDROID_VERSION_NAME, else nearest `android-v*` tag (suffixed +<n> when HEAD is past it), else "0.1.0"

Currently resolves to versionCode 2164 / versionName "0.1.0" (repo has no android-v* tags yet).

Design notes: commit count is monotonic on a linear history and needs no tag to exist, so a tagless fresh clone still builds rather than failing a local assembleDebug. Tags are `android-v1.2.3`-shaped and `git describe` is --match-scoped so they cannot collide with iOS or web tags in this monorepo. Uses providers.exec so Gradle tracks the result as a configuration-cache input instead of silently staling it. The env vars are the CI override seam — a build server wanting a run-number scheme sets ANDROID_VERSION_CODE and nothing else changes.

All four branches were exercised and verified against the merged manifest: env override (90001/9.9.9), tag on HEAD (1.2.0), HEAD three commits past the tag (1.2.0+3), and untagged (0.1.0).

apps/android/AGENTS.md:202 corrected — it documented "baseline; bump on each release" with no mechanism; it now describes the derivation and says do not hand-edit.

ONE THING TO CHECK BEFORE FIRST UPLOAD: apps/android/AGENTS.md describes the app identity as "preserved from Play Store app". If com.tactile.app ALREADY exists on Play with a published versionCode, confirm 2164 exceeds it — Play burns a versionCode permanently and will reject anything equal or lower. Commit count almost certainly clears it, but I cannot see the Play Console to confirm.

Android CI does not exist (no workflow in .github/workflows references Android) — wiring this scheme into CI belongs to wave w_8b2fb838, out of scope here.
