## The brief on file

DONE 2026-08-07 — PR #260, merged to main (merge 9fb02bbc, ancestry verified), deployed to staging. UNBLOCKS t_722f9a3f.

  PATCH  /api/agent/conversations/:id  → rename
  DELETE /api/agent/conversations/:id  → PERMANENTLY delete

Route-layer only, as the brief said: agent_conversations.title was already persisted. Android was right to refuse to build against a rename that did not exist rather than ship a button that silently did nothing.

DELETE SEMANTICS — MATTHEW'S CALL, 2026-08-07: a TRUE row delete. It used to set archived_at and the word did not mean it. I surfaced the costs before he chose and he chose with them on the table:

  · pitr_enabled:false and zero stored backups → a deleted conversation is gone for good.
  · From pg_constraint, not assumed:
      agent_pending_actions  CASCADE   → unresolved proposals vanish with it
      agent_audit_log        SET NULL  → row survives, link lost
      agent_undo_log         SET NULL  → row survives, link lost
      agent_usage            SET NULL  → row survives, link lost
    So usage/billing history is preserved and the transcript is not. Nothing RESTRICTs, so the delete cannot fail on a dangling reference.

THE AUDIT ROW IS WRITTEN BEFORE THE DELETE, and that ordering is the mitigation for the choice. public.audit_log has no FK to conversations, so unlike agent_audit_log it is not nulled by the cascade — it is the ONLY durable trace the conversation existed. Auditing afterwards would mean a crash in between leaves no record at all, the one outcome with no recovery. New audit action `agent.conversation_deleted`; docs/audit-log.md's table updated.

RENAME RULES — Matthew chose trim / 1-120 / reject empty. Empty is REJECTED rather than read as "clear it": empty-means-something is the exact ambiguity that caused the contact-fields data loss in #247. Both routes are owner-scoped and answer 404 for missing-or-not-yours indistinguishably.

TESTS: tests/unit/agent-conversation-rename-delete.test.ts (12). Note they live in tests/unit, NOT apps/api/tactile-api/tests — agent.ts imports @tactile/mcp-server whose package.json points at a gitignored dist/, so under tsx these would need a `pnpm --filter @tactile/mcp-server build` first and fail confusingly on a cold checkout. The root vitest config already aliases that package to source for exactly this reason, and tests/unit is what `pnpm verify` runs. Same tests, no build step, inside the gate.

FOR THE CLIENT SESSIONS: "Delete" now means delete. Copy should say so plainly — this is no longer an archive, and there is no undo. If any client still offers an "Archive" affordance, POST /api/agent/sessions/:id/archive is still the soft path and is unchanged.
